“Almost No Knead” Sourdough Buttermilk Bread
“Almost No Knead” Sourdough Buttermilk Bread
Ingredients
1/2 cup of lukewarm water ( it should feel warm but not hot when touching your wrist)
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon active yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup sourdough starter
1 tablespoon kosher salt – if you use regular table salt use only 1 1/2 teaspoons
4 cups all purpose flour
Directions
In a large bowl mix all ingredients until combined. The dough should be pretty loose. If the dough seems dry add a little more water. Let stand until doubled in size. Mine took a little over an hour. Heat your Pizza Stone in the oven @ 450 degrees for at least 30 minutes. While the Pizza Stone is preheating prepare the dough for the oven. I found it easiest when using a piece of parchment paper that is heavily floured, adding yellow cornmeal to the flour to prevent sticking. Plop the dough on the floured parchment paper and shape into whatever shape you desire. Round, oval, square – you decide. Once the Pizza Stone is ready just take your parchment paper with dough and place it carefully on the pizza stone. Bake for about 35 – 45 minutes or until golden brown. Place bread on a cooling rack and enjoy 🙂
Saw your recipe and am interested in trying it. You said to preheat pizza stone at 450.Is this the same temp to bake the bread at? At 450 it usually takes a pizza about 9 minutes to cook. I’m confused.
Hi Steven. Thanks for stopping by. Yes, the bread is baked at 450 degrees F. Since Bread is usually much thicker than Pizza it will take longer than pizza. Hope that helps
