Homemade Flaky Biscuits
Homemade Flaky Biscuits
Ingredients
3 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon cream of tartar
¾ cup butter ( should be frozen for about 30 minutes before using) plus 2 tablespoons melted butter
3/4 cup + 6 tablespoons milk
optional – 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Directions
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. In a medium bowl stir together all the dry ingredients until well combined. Put butter into freezer for about 30 minutes then use a box type grater and shred / grate the butter into the flour mixture. With a wooden spoon stir until the mixture resembles small peas. Add the cheese and stir. Then add the milk and mix until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix. You want the ingredients to barely stick together. On lightly floured parchment paper roll out dough. Cut into circles or squares about 1 inch thick. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until the bottom of the biscuits are golden brown. Melt the 2 tablespoons of butter. After removing the biscuits from the oven brush with melted butter. Enjoy !
So good! I’ve made these a few times and they are the best I’ve made ever. I’ve never been a huge biscuit fan with the exception of these baby’s. So good with sausage gravy over them.
